By the late 16th century master watchmakers were distinguished by their diversity and pure imagination; the sky was the limit for style and function alike. Timepieces were often made inside of pendants and charms shaped into everything from human skulls to various animals like dogs, rabbits, and even fish. The more obscure the piece, the better. As the complexity of timepieces matured, the distinction between watches and other types of jewelry became more defined. Then a jeweler and watchmaker by the name of Martin Duboule took signing to the next level when he added the phrase, "à Genève" underneath his name. This revolutionary decision was first presented on a skull watch made circa 1620. Martin was also known in his trade as a lapidary (precious stone engraver). This ability was well recognized when he created the earliest known Geneva watch decorated with champlevé enamel that now resides in Paris' Cluny museum. Jean-Baptiste Duboule, Martin's son, soon became a master watchmaker and engraver in his own right. The astronomical fusee watch he made ca. 1680 now resides in the British museum and is claimed to be the finest piece ever made for its time.

Jean-Baptiste Duboule also would go on to revolutionize the fusee watch design. By the mid-17th century, watches operated with a mainspring made of either a length of catgut or chain. This spring, after the watch had been fully wound, will slowly wrap around a conical spiral as the timekeeper runs during the course of the day. It is due to both father and son's immeasurable talents and contributions to the watchmaking world that we pay tribute. The plethora of beautiful timepieces that make up the Duboule collection are made with a perfect balance of precise craftsmanship and refined presence. So join us as we remember the brilliant watches of the past with these incredible timepieces of today.

3rd After doing a little homework on "must have" items, its BID time!
Enter a bid you feel comfortable with and would pay for with ease. Most of our auctions start at a $1 bid.
For example; a Dell laptop currently at $1 and has a bid increment of $7, your bid would need to bid $8 to be the current top bidder.

Near the end of the auction is when bidding gets down right, FUN! Watching an item in bid action the last hour or two is intriguing. Plus, the good news is that there a chance that your item is at the price you had in mind, so for go it, and win BIG!

See, winning, was fun, easy, and you're ready to do it all over again!

What is Proxy Bidding?

Proxy bidding is a convenient way to automatically bid on your items without having to continually return to your computer to check on your auctions. A Proxy Bid is a bid automatically placed by the auction system on your behalf based on the Maximum Bid Amount that you set for the particular listing. Each time you place a bid by entering your maximum bid amount (which is the most you're willing to pay for an item), you will be using our Proxy bidding system. If another bidder places a bid on your item, Proxy bidding will then bid automatically on your behalf and at the lowest possible bid increments, but not more than the maximum you specified.

The goal is to win an item at the lowest successful price. To do so, you must be the bidder who placed the highest maximum bid at auction close. You will be notified by email if another bidder has surpassed your maximum bid. In case of a tie for high bidder, earlier bids will take precedence.

Time Left to Bid and Overtime Bidding

Time Left to Bid

Exchange Auctions displays a countdown clock to the auction close time. This countdown clock represents the time you have left to bid on that auction. If a bid is placed within the last 5 minutes of the auction close time, that auction will go into overtime.

Overtime Bidding

The Overtime Bidding feature works to ensure that bidders will always have a chance to challenge bids placed in the final seconds of an auction. When indicated on a listing page, if a bid is placed during the last 5 minutes of an open auction, the auction will be automatically extended for an additional 5 minutes from the time of the latest bid. There is no limit to the number of times an auction can be extended. Therefore, it is recommended that you check back frequently as an auction nears closing time. The auction will close once all bidding activity has stopped for a period of 5 minutes.

Note: If you have placed a bid when Overtime Bidding is engaged, you should refresh or reload your browser frequently (every 3 - 5 secs) so that it displays the most current bid status information.

What is Bid Increment?

The bid increment is the specified minimum amount you must bid over the current bid amount.

What is an English Auction?

In an English auction, buyers bid until the auction ends. The item is then sold to the highest bidder at the end of the auction period.

What is a Yankee Auction?

In a Yankee Auction, a product lot (a quantity of 2 or more identical products) goes up for auction at a starting price. You attempt to outbid other buyers by offering more money for one or more pieces in the lot. Your bid price is per each single piece and you may bid for more than one piece.

At the close of the auction, the products are awarded to the highest bidder(s) at the price they bid and for the quantity they bid for up to the available auction lot.

As an example, if 5 units are up for auction, and Bidder A bids $200 for 2 pieces, and Bidder B bids $175 for 1 piece and Bidder C bids $160 for 2 pieces, and Bidder D bids $150 for 1 piece. Bidders A, B, and C would all be winning bidders at the price each of them bid and for the quantity each of them bid for. Bidder D would be a losing bidder.

In the event that two different bidders bid the same price, then the winner is based on the quantity bid for and the time the bid was placed. Higher quantity and earliest bids take preference.

NOTE: There is no proxy bidding feature with Yankee auctions. If you win, the price you bid is the price you pay.

What does "MBV" mean?
MBV = Maximum Bid Value

Maximum Bid Value
We understand that in the heat of the moment that occurs during the final hours and minutes of an auction you may bid more than you can find the item elsewhere. In our efforts to fulfill our commitment that every auction participant has a winning experience we provide you a maximum bid value as a guide to not exceed. In the jewelry and watch industry retail pricing depends upon when and where an item is purchased. An individual can find the same or similar items in a discount department store for hundreds to thousands less than a boutique watch/jewelry store. When we establish the Maximum Bid Value we utilize the retail pricing method established by those boutique jewelry stores. "MBV" price reflects a price suggested by the manufacturer or supplier of these goods, without reference to actual retail sales price, in accordance with standard industry practices.

In addition to the great values you determine through the $1 start bid, No Reserve Auctions, we offer the ability to earn Bid Bucks in the amount of 5% of your total net Winning Auction purchases for a calendar month. These Bid Bucks can be applied as a discount towards your next winning auction of the following month.
